Rainy Day Easter Activities

Rainy Day Easter Activities

Rainy Day Easter Activities

It’s never fun being the bearer of bad news but here at Marygreen Manor, we’re never ones to let a little rain get in the way of some family fun. With rain forecast for Easter Sunday, we feel it’s our duty to give you a few ideas of just what you can get up when staying here in our Essex hotel. From indoor Easter egg hunts to a little wine list indulgence, there’s plenty for you to enjoy so sit back, relax and let us inspire you.

Afternoon Tea – whether you’re travelling with younger ones or in a group of adults only, there’s nothing quite like an afternoon tea to turn your rainy day around and here at Marygreen Manor, we’re known throughout Essex for the best Afternoon Tea in Essex. Enjoy cakes, sandwiches and a glass of bubbly (or two) and watch the rain fall from the warmth of our conservatory room.

Indoor Easter Egg Hunt – ok ok, so we know this one’s a little harder when you’re staying in a hotel but our rooms are certainly large enough to create a few hiding spaces so while the rest of your family are enjoying breakfast in our Tudors Restaurant, we suggest you start looking for the best hiding places (under the bed, behind the curtains) and create a few clues to boot. Better yet, turn it into a general knowledge game and quiz the kids to receive a clue. We guarantee some smiles, giggles and a morning of chocolatey fun.

Wine List Indulgence – as well as having a fabulous restaurant, we also boast an award-winning wine list so if you’re away without the children, we suggest you take it as an opportunity to start familiarising yourself with the difference between a pinot noir and a sauvignon blanc.

Whatever you choose to do, here at Marygreen Manor, the best hotel in Essex, we insist you don’t let the weather spoil your time this Easter weekend.

The Marygreen Manor Guide To Easter In Essex

Easter In Essex

Easter In Essex

Easter weekend will soon be upon us and what better way to spend it than by exploring Essex, as well as the local area surrounding Marygreen Manor, and all it has to offer. There are a number of events going on, some have even been taking place since the very beginning of April to get everyone in the mood for Easter and here, to make things easier for you, is the Marygreen Manor top pick!

First up, we have the fabulous Easter Egg Hunt at the Abberton Reservoir Visitor Centre in Colchester. This looks set to be a fun session for all the family where you and the little ones get to explore the nature reserve through an eggciting (see what we did there) Easter egg hunt through the reservoir. The Easter bunny has been extra kind and left a few goodies for the little ones to find, guaranteed to keep them occupied while you take in the beautiful scenery. Running from 10:30am to 3pm, we advise you give them a call beforehand to make sure there’s a space available.

Colchester it would seem is the hub of Easter Egg Hunts with the Beth Chatto Gardens Easter egg hunt too in Elmstead Market. For those who simply love their gardening and flowers, this could be the perfect location giving you a chance to take in the beautiful gardens and enjoy the spring blooms while the little ones (or the not so little ones) go off in search of chocolate. With adults costing £6.95 and children a mere £1.50 or free if you book online before you arrive, it’s one you can’t afford to miss.

Last but most certainly not least we’ve got the fabulous Hopefield Animal Sanctuary who’ll be hosting their very own Easter egg hunt which promises not only fabulous chocolate for the kids but an array of stalls, inflatables, live music, animal handling and even the amazing Crazy Legs providing entertainment just for the kids. We think it’s safe to say, Easter in Essex looks set to be super exciting for the kids (and big kids) of the family.

Enjoy Your Wedding Whatever The Weather

It feels like weddings are all around at the moment and are you surprised? There’s nothing quite like a spring wedding here in the UK but with spring weather comes a level of uncertainty. While you can’t predict just what will happen on your big day, there are ways you can prepare for it and here at Marygreen Manor, we’ve become experts when it comes to planning for unexpected weather on your wedding day. Here are some of our top tips for keeping everyone warm, dry and most importantly focusing on the bride and not the pouring rain.

Talk to your venue – despite everyone’s good spirits and insistence that it “won’t rain”, we can’t emphasise enough just how important it is to talk to your venue i.e. Marygreen Manor. You want to know if they offer a plan B should the heavens open and you find yourself in the middle of the biggest storm to ever hit Brentwood. From the ceremony to the wedding photos, you need to ensure that there are options to cater for such events. Thankfully, here at Marygreen Manor, we have halls and suites to cater to every wedding party size should the weather stop you from enjoying the spring sunshine.

Secure a tent or hall indoors – while it’s all very well and good knowing a venue has a hall or suite available should the weather turn disastrous, simply knowing this information isn’t enough. Take the smart step and secure a tent or hall indoors should the weather turn nasty. This not only allows your day to continue without pause but also prevents any stress or worry on the day…something any bride and groom could do without.

Plan ahead – it’s always best to plan ahead when it comes to weddings instead of leaving it until the week before your wedding to decide what you’ll do should the weather turn nasty. Consider everything, from the placing of the cake to the flowers, wedding music and more. Whether it’s an extra layer to go with your bridal gown, a few logs beside the fire should the wind pick up or even the necessary ingredients to put together a batch of hot chocolate, it pays to plan ahead. It may involve spending a few extra pounds but we guarantee it’ll be worth every penny if you wake up on the morning of your wedding to bad weather.

Keep everyone in the loop – if you really have your heart set on a wedding out in the open space, such as our landscaped gardens for instance, then we suggest you let your guests know what they’re getting involved in. Even if you decide to leave just a small note on your wedding invitation, or even a popular addition to all wedding invites now known as the “rain card” that simply suggests your guests prepare for an outdoor wedding. This reminds them to dress appropriately should the weather take a turn for the worse. The more information you give your guests, the better they’ll be able to prepare and the happier they’ll be. This makes for far less stress on the day and anything that helps towards smooth sailing is good in our books.

Last but not least…embrace it – as any resident of the UK knows, you can’t control the weather so if you can’t beat them, join them and embrace a little rain. Think about the most romantic scenes in your favourite romcoms and remind yourself of the rain that often fills them. At the very least, you’ll have some of the most memorable wedding photography moments to look forward to.

Brentwood In The Spring!

The weather is certainly beginning to change, which means much more time outside in the open and let’s face it, that’s never a bad thing. So, for our guests here at Marygreen Manor, we thought we’d compile a list of fun and fantastic things to do in and around Brentwood for those staying with their families. Believe us when we say, you won’t run out of things to do in our famous town, that’s for sure.

Hopefield Animal Sanctuary – with a very famous friend who goes by the name of Leona Lewis, Hopefield Animal Sanctuary is possibly one of the biggest charities in Brentwood and the perfect day out for the animal lovers amongst us. Not only will you get to spend time with every animal imaginable, from horses to pigs, goats to lizards and even a lamb born only a few weeks ago, but you’ll also get to help support the charity by rummaging through their brand new on-site pet shop and enjoying a cup of tea and a bite to eat in their on-site café too.

King Georges Playing Fields – King George’s playing fields are great for kids of all ages. Having only recently under gone quite a transformation, this family park now boasts everything from a skate park to an amazing mini-golf and even a huge park too. From toddler swings to larger play sets, this place has everything you could need for a fun day out. There’s even a “café in the park” offering hot food and drink too for those chillier spring days.

Thorndon Country Park – Thorndon country park is quite simply huge! This wooded area has become famous in Brentwood for it’s fantastic Gruffalo trail and has children of all ages searching for him every weekend. You’ll even find an Easter egg hunt or two here in April so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for details on that soon. One of the best bits about this forest – you don’t actually have to get muddy if you don’t want to. There are pathways all around Thorndon offering you a clean(er) walk through the forest although we’d still advise leaving the Chanel espadrilles at home though. Here you’ll find cows and even horses grazing in surrounding fields making it the perfect spring time stroll location.

Colmar Farm Riding School – looking to take up a new sport? Maybe try something a little different? Or perhaps you’re looking to jump back in the saddle again and see if it all comes flooding back? Either way, Colmar Farm Riding School is a BHS recognised riding school that offers you the chance to enjoy riding lessons as well as hacks over the nearby park – South Weald park. There’s nothing quite like a wander through South Weald with the bluebells in full bloom.

Brentwood Karting – last but not least with the Brentwood karting centre. This is great for the speed demons amongst us. Here you’ll be able to race around the track, against the clock, competing against family and friends. What’s more, it’s just a stones throw away from Marygreen Manor.

What more could you want in the town surrounding our fabulous hotel. With so much to see and do, and a luxury room to kick back in when you’re finished for the day, Marygreen Manor and the wonderful town of Brentwood, pretty much has it all.

You Need To Try Marygreen Manor Fine Dining!

Rib Eye Steak and tomatoes

Simply sublime

Did you know one of the main reasons people miss out on a truly joyful moment in life – price. That’s right! Label a restaurant as fine dining and people immediately see pound signs. While we can’t deny, a true fine dining experience is always a little more expensive, it’s no where near the kind of price many seem to think it is. It’s also worth noting that a true fine dining experience will provide you with three elements you just won’t find anywhere else and they are…

High quality food and drink – here at Marygreen Manor, we cook from only the very best ingredients. We always, when able to, source local ingredients too. This means that our menu changes seasonally and while it may not feature as many dishes as say, a chain restaurant in the high street, you will instead notice some truly unique items that you just wouldn’t find anywhere else. On top of this, you’ll also find yourself privy to an award-winning wine list with each wine picked specifically to compliment each individual dish.

Unbeatable service – when it comes to service within a fine dining restaurant, there’s quite simply nothing else like it. Not only will you find staff much more attentive to your every need, but you’ll also find a few added extras such as crumbing tables between courses, replacing napkins if you leaves the table, escorting you to the table and holding chairs for women as well as serving food directly at the table. Such added details are quite simply exquisite and really separate a fine dining restaurant from any other.

An elegant atmosphere – from grand décor to modern, contemporary hand made furniture; a fine dining restaurant is guaranteed to blow you away and Marygreen Manor is no exception to the rule. Considering the history of our manor house, you’ll find some amazing period features offering a real hint of our Tudor history too.

As you can see, fine dining is much more than simply “eating out”. It’s an experience that you’ll want to enjoy again and again.
