What A Fabulous Weekend Celebrating The Queen!

While everyone thought we were in for some serious sunshine to last through the entire summer, as any UK resident will know, good old British rain will indeed make an appearance at some point and there was certainly no better time for some patriotic precipitation to make an appearance than this particular weekend. While many were no doubt watching the football, rugby or formula one, the vast majority of the country were putting on their patriotic hats and doing their bit in celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday.

London was out in full swing yesterday with the world famous, Trooping Of The Colour. This is a hugely popular annual event that happens very close to St James Park. The ceremony is full of military pomp and pageantry as the Queen does her bit to inspect the troops from what’s known as the Household Division. Tradition is that once the Queen’s carried out her inspection, she then leads them down the Mall through to Buckingham Palace, one of our greatest city’s most famous landmarks. She then salutes before guns are fired in Green Park and the Tower of London and the RAF flypast. As you can imagine, it’s a real spectacle to watch and draws a huge crowd, with this weekend being even more of a draw but that wasn’t all.

Today saw further celebrations in the Mall and people’s own streets as bunting filled parties were had up and down the country. Pimms and Gin were in full flow as people celebrated not only the Queen but the Monarchy as a whole too and oh how proud to be British we were. It was no different here at the Marygreen Manor either.

What a fabulous weekend it was, that just wouldn’t have been the same without the odd spot of good ol’ British rain.
