Keep Calm And Carry On!

Keep Calm and Carry On here at The Marygreen Manor

Keep calm and carry on…we’ve all heard it over the years no matter what generation we’re from and it’s also quite likely that over the last nine or ten years we’ve all seen the slogan at some point. Whether it was plastered on a mug, a poster or some other product emblazed with the famous phrase, it’s become somewhat of a catchphrase. Despite its sudden popularity, whether it’s for the saying in its original state or the many different variations we see now depending on where we are, it’s actually something that’s been said since 1939.

The British government first produced the motivational poster in preparation for the Second World War. Its sole intention and purpose was to raise morale for the Great British public that was, at the time, threatened with widely predicted air attacks on the major cities. In spite of 2.45 million copies of the poster being printed, it was actually rarely displayed in public, which explains its relative anonymity back then. That was until around 2000 when it was rediscovered. Since then it’s been used in more ways than we can count for decorative purposes and more recently as a theme for one of our many popular events here at The Marygreen Manor.

This September, Friday 18th to be precise, we’ll be opening our doors to a Keep Calm and Carry On Dinner. Whilst enjoying some of the finest dining in Essex the sublime Moneypenny Productions will be treating you to a wonderful cabaret. On that night, over thirty classic comedies ranging from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s will be squeezed into one evening. The question is, will you be able to Keep Calm and Carry On eating or will you be dragged along for the raucous laughs with a cast of classic characters that are said to have more front than Southend?

For just £49.50 per person you can enjoy a fabulous three-course meal and entertainment for the entire evening, all in the exquisite surroundings of our wonderful Tudor Manor house right here in Essex.
